November 20, 2017 — State Rep. Chris Turner delivers Thanksgiving meals to homebound, elderly and disabled residents.  State Rep. Chris Turner is teaming up with Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County to deliver Thanksgiving meals to homebound, elderly and disabled residents in Arlington on Wednesday, November 27, 2017.  Clients have been given a choice between a traditional turkey or glazed-ham meal. Both entrees are served with cornbread dressing, green beans, mashed sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and beverage of choice. The personal visit provided by volunteers, like Rep. Turner, also helps to combat senior isolation and loneliness as well as provide a daily safety check for our most vulnerable citizens, especially during the holiday season.

Meals On Wheels provides nutritious, home-delivered meals to our most frail citizens so that they can remain living independently in their own homes. Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County can feed one person for an entire year for just $1,690, roughly the cost of ten days in a nursing home or one day in a hospital. These services not only provide dignity and independence to our homebound, elderly and disabled residents, they save taxpayers millions of dollars each year by keeping frail clients out of taxpayer-funded nursing homes and other care facilities.
