Position Description
Title: Marketing and Public Relations Intern
Paid or Volunteer: Unpaid
Full or Part Time: Part-time (flexible 20 hours per week/80 hours per month. Negotiable eight week time-frame within normal agency business hours of 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday)
Reports To: Communications Manager and Public Relations Specialist
Position Overview: Tactical fulfillment of marketing, public relations, fundraising, and special 3rd-party events.
Agency Responsibilities – shared by all staff members
- Maintain confidentiality of client, donor, volunteer, staff, and board information
- Support the mission, vision, and goals of Meals On Wheels
Position Responsibilities
- Develop content for newsletters, direct mail campaigns, and other special projects by conducting interviews, taking photos, and writing articles
- Assist with planning and organizing marketing/community awareness-based events, such as High Heels, and others as necessary
- Creative design for assigned events, scheduled communications and other ad-hoc projects
- Assist with coordinating cause-related marketing efforts with corporations and local businesses
- Assist with maintenance and updates to approved social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter as directed
- Coordinate creation of email campaigns
- Creative design for assigned events and other ad-hoc projects
- Assist with Lunch and Learn events
- Attend meetings as directed
Other Conditions:
- Must have dependable transportation for errands, marketing events, and other job related activities
- Must be able to work with and communicate with clients, donors, volunteers, staff and board members
- Must be able to work after hours and weekends when required for events and presentations
- Must be able to lift, load and unload 40 lbs.
Qualifications:
- Junior or senior level student in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or other related field required
- Above average oral and written communication skills
- Above average interpersonal communication skills, including excellent group presentation and relationship management skills
- Highly-motivated individual that excels both as an individual contributor and in a team environment
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Working knowledge of computer operations and software products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
- Experience with photography, photojournalism, and video editing a plus.
