The Legends Luncheon recognizes the accomplishments of Texans who have demonstrated outstanding character through actions and community involvement.

The 2016 Honorees are TCU Football Legends  Andy Dalton, LaDainian Tomlinson, Mike Renfro, and Lyle Blackwood

Legends Luncheon benefits the Home-Delivered Meals program of Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County.

 

Andy Dalton TCU 2006-2010

Andy Dalton graduated TCU holding the record in every major quarterback category, including a 42-8 record as a starter.  In 2010, he led the Horned Frogs to an undefeated season capped by a Rose Bowl victory, where he was named MVP.  He was a finalist for the Manning Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Bobby Bowden Award, and semi-finalist for the Davy O’Brien Award.  During his career he was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and First Team All Mountain West twice, MVP of the 2007 Texas Bowl, and MVP of the 2008 Poinsettia Bowl.  Currently, he is the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals and co-founder of the Andy & Jordan Dalton Foundation.

La Dainian Tomlinson has excelled both on and off the football field.  While at TCU, he was presented with the Doak Walker Award, honoring the nation’s top running back; led the NCAA two consecutive seasons in rushing; and was a Heisman Trophy finalist.  Tomlinson was selected as the 5th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers, where he played the majority of his 11-year career.  In 2006, he was honored as the NFL MVP and Walter Payton Man of the Year.  He has been elected to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, TCU Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame, and is widely regarded as a first-ballot inductee to the NFL Hall of Fame Class of 2017.  He is currently the President/Co-Chairman of the Tomlinson’s Touching Lives Foundation and an analyst for the NFL Network.

Mike Renfro TCU 1974-1977

Mike Renfro was a shining star for the Horned Frogs in the 1970’s.  He ranks as one TCU’s all-time leading receivers with 2,739 yards.  He was voted All Southwest Conference three years and was a Second Team All-American Selection in 1977. His successful 11-year NFL career teamed him with quarterback greats Dan Pastorini, Kenny Stabler, Archie Manning, Warren Moon and Danny White.

Football was the family business, three generations played wide receiver.  His father Ray Renfro was an All-Pro receiver for the Cleveland Browns, and his uncle Dean Renfro for the Baltimore Colts.  Mike’s two brothers, nephew, cousin and sons Clint and Ford also played at the collegiate level.

Lyle Blackwood was a stand-out safety for the Horned Frogs.  He set a TCU record for the most interception yards in one game with 104, was named All Southwest Conference twice, and an All-American in 1972.  Lyle played 14 seasons in the NFL with the Cincinatti Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Colts, and Miami Dolphins.  He led the league in interceptions in 1977.  Playing with his brother in Miami, he was part of the notorious “Killer B’s” defense.
