Position Description

 

Title:  MANAGED CARE BILLING SPECIALIST         

Exempt/Non-Exempt: Full-time Exempt

Reports To:  Manager of Contracts and Operations and VP Finance & Operations

Supervises:  No Supervisory Responsibilities

Other Relationships:  Works with Operations & Accounting Department, all other agency departments, managed care organizations, and the public in general. 

Position’s Role Summary:  A Managed Care Billing Specialist primarily accurately bills payers to assure timely payments of services, follows up on unpaid claims in a timely manner, serves as subject matter expert, assists Meals On Wheels Operations department to achieve billing best practices. 

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • This position is primarily responsible for providing accurate and timely billings to government and private payer entities.
  • Follows up daily on receivables outstanding and responds to requests for information and denials in a timely manner. Responsible for pursuit of delinquent accounts, claims, and appeals. Supply appropriate documentation to VP of Finance for uncollectible amounts.
  • Understand the terms of managed care contracts and be able to apply that understanding to billing
  • Recording all amounts billed and payments received onto Excel spreadsheet, Harmony database, and Abila MIP accounting software.
  • Month end database reconciliation and close of payer billings.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of how to bill managed care payers.
  • Effectively manages time to meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written skills are required in order to interact with insurance companies to resolve unpaid claims via telephone and written correspondence
  • Other Operations Department administrative responsibilities include answering incoming calls, taking donations over the phone, entering client intakes, meal delivery reports, intake packets, and filing.
  • Work in coordination with all team members to ensure excellent customer service to donors, vendors, board members, and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Prefer 3-5 years experience billing various Managed Care companies and understanding requirements for each payer
  • Must be able to understand managed care contracting and apply to billing
  • Claim appeal/resolution expertise preferred
  • Must be able to effectively interact with payers to ensure timely processing of claims and resolve unpaid claims via telephone and/or written correspondence
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to project and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work individually as well as in a team environment and communicate effectively with clients, donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and lift 25 lbs.
  • Experience with software such as Excel.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, donor, volunteer, staff and board information
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County
  • Deliver meals and assist with phones when necessary
  • Must have dependable transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass multi-state background check
  • Assist with other projects when necessary
