Position Overview: The Marketing & Public Relations Specialist is the primary public representative of the Agency for the media.  This person is also responsible for a wide range of marketing functions, including planning and tactical fulfillment of marketing initiatives, promotions, public relations, fundraising, special 3rd-party events, and much more.  This position requires a highly motivated, organized and resourceful individual who possesses exceptional oral and written communications skills, and uses critical thinking skills to successfully navigate the demands of this important position.

 

Paid As: Salary, Exempt Full-Time Employee

Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Friday

Reports To: VP Marketing & Communications

Other Relationships: Works with corporate/individual/civic donors, elected officials, all internal staff members and departments, print/lettershop vendors, as well as Meals On Wheels clients and other community representatives.

 

AGENCY EXPECTATION OF EMPLOYEE

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, donor, volunteer, staff and board information
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County
  • Represent Meals On Wheels in a professional manner at all times
  • Must have dependable transportation, valid driver license and personal vehicle insurance as required by the State of Texas
  • Required to pass criminal background check and have a free and clear MVR
  • Assist with meal delivery when volunteer callouts make it necessary for staff to deliver
  • Contribute to other projects when necessary

 

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

Media Relations

  • Serve as spokesperson for Meals On Wheels for all TV, radio and print interviews
  • Write and edit agency press releases
  • Pitch newsworthy stories to local media and respond to information requests from the local media
  • Arrange interviews with agency leaders, volunteers and clients
  • Maintain strong relationships with local media and keep contacts updated

 

Crisis Communication

  • On call for all media contacts for potential interviews regarding Agency’s actions and procedures
  • Create and distribute media alerts promptly and accurately, when necessary
  • Consider the organization’s responsibility to the public and ensure clear and prompt communication to the public on all Agency platforms, especially during crisis management

 

Social Media Management

  • Create engaging social media campaigns
  • Write compelling content appropriate for each platform
  • Design social media graphics
  • Engage with followers and providing prompt communication
  • Track social analytics and adjust as needed to increase organic reach and engagement with potential volunteers and donors
  • Prepare monthly analytics reports for Meals On Wheels Board of Directors

 

Video Production

  • Shoot and edit video for social media content, agency website, large fundraising events, and sharable footage for local media outlets
  • Interview clients, volunteers, donors and employees with compelling stories to help garner community awareness, new donors and recruit volunteers
  • Provide b-roll to local news outlets

 

General Marketing / Public Relations

  • Create informative and compelling content for digital and print publications
  • Work with VP of Marketing and Event Specialist to develop unique and effective marketing campaigns
  • Adhere to and promote all Agency branding guidelines
  • Maintain Agency Facts Sheet and Boilerplate
  • Create donor newsletter and annual report
    • Interview clients, volunteers, donors and staff for potential stories
    • Write and edit articles
    • Photograph and edit images
  • Attend fairs, expos and other events to provide resources and information to the local community and increase awareness
  • Compose and schedule all weather and holiday closure emails and social media posts
  • Oversee the distribution and design of monthly client nutrition mailers
    • Designing the monthly client nutrition sheets to creatively educate clients on their nutritional needs
    • Pull monthly client contribution reports and write monthly cover letters
    • Work with vendor to ensure timely printing and distribution each month
  • Lead fundraising and campaign efforts for North Texas Giving Day
    • Attend all trainings, fairs and webinars for North Texas Giving Day
    • Interview and write stories to encourage giving and share Agency’s mission
    • Plan and execute social media campaigns
  • Write monthly donor thank you letters on behalf of CEO
  • Actively pursue and give public presentations about Meals On Wheels to businesses and social/civic groups:
    • Maintain knowledge of all aspects of the Agency and its operations
    • Design and maintain an agency overview presentation
    • Ensure agency overview presentation is up to date with current information
  • Provide tours for guests, elected officials, and members of the media
  • Plan client 100+ birthday celebrations by coordinating with clients’ families and case manager to provide a celebration appropriate for the client’s cognitive and physical health. Look for compelling story angles and pitch to media when appropriate.
  • Attend Chamber meetings across the county and maintain strong relationships with other nonprofits, businesses and community leaders.
  • Plan and implement third-party fundraising promotions

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Above average interpersonal communication skills, including excellent group presentation and relationship management skills
  • Highly-motivated individual that excels both as an individual contributor and in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Working knowledge of computer operations and software products including Word, Excel, ACCESS, Publisher, and Outlook
  • Proficiency with email marketing tools such as Constant Contact
  • Proficiency with video editing/production skills
  • Must be able to work after hours and weekends when required for events and presentations

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Five years of relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • Experience in social media marketing
  • Experience with photography, photojournalism, and video editing preferred
