Meals On Wheels of Tarrant CountyThis past year, Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County prepared and delivered nearly 1 million nutritious meals to our homebound elderly and disabled neighbors throughout Tarrant County. By any standard, that is quite an accomplishment. About half of our $6.5 million annual budget comes from government funding sources, but the other half is raised from caring individuals in our community. The money that is raised in Tarrant County stays right here in our own neighborhoods to help those in need.

This May marks the 42nd Anniversary of Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County and we are celebrating by asking our friends in the faith-based community to participate in Pass the Plate 2015 by taking up a special offering for the Meals On Wheels Home-Delivered Meals program on or around May 17th. We understand that as a community of faith it is our collective responsibility to take care of those in need. Proverbs 14:31 says, “Whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” While we understand the financial challenges that many churches and synagogues face today, we want to give every congregation the opportunity to be a part of the solution by participating in this special event to help feed the hungry in Tarrant County.

Meals On Wheels Pass the Plate Day will be celebrated on Sunday, May 17, 2015. We hope that every church and synagogue in Tarrant County will prayerfully consider joining other congregations in taking up a special offering on or around that day to help feed our homebound neighbors. If you are a member of a local church or synagogue, please help us spread the word about this special event within your congregation.

It does not matter whether your congregation is large or small, wealthy or in need. We can all participate at some level and be a part of the solution to end hunger in Tarrant County. Your offering of any size will change people’s lives. In Acts 10:4, the angel told Cornelius, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.” As we said last year, it is remarkable what God can do when people of faith come together.

We want you to know that Servant Leadership is at the heart of everything that we do at Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County. To that end, we are excellent stewards of the resources that are entrusted to us. You will be glad to know that 85¢ out of every $1 donated goes directly to providing services for those in need. We work hard to control our administrative costs and are proud that we have a coveted Four Star rating with Charity Navigator.

Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County was established in 1973 by a coalition of eleven faith-based organizations in downtown Fort Worth to fight hunger in the inner city. We know that God has richly blessed the work that we are doing within the community and we continue to rely on partnerships with churches and synagogues to help feed this frail segment of our community. Many of these organizations provide volunteers to deliver meals or allow us to use their facilities as staging areas to distribute the meals throughout the county so that volunteers can pick them up in the neighborhoods where they are served.

We hope that we can count on your support for Pass the Plate 2015. If you would like to notify us of your participation in this very worthwhile effort, please contact Keith Harrison at 817-258-6450 or keith@mealsonwheels.org. He can answer any questions and offer you the support that you need to encourage your congregation to make a difference in our community.
