Position Overview: The Grant Specialist position is responsible for researching funding opportunities, drafting, and submitting proposals, completing follow-up reports, and assisting with other donor development and engagement activities.

 

Paid As: Hourly, Non-Exempt Full-Time Employee

Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Friday

Reports To: Grants, Capital & Major Gifts Manager

Committees: Development Council, Endowment Board, other Board Committees as required

Other Relationships: Meet as necessary with agency board members in areas relating to fundraising, marketing, public relations, etc…Works with Marketing & Communications, Accounting, Grant Compliance, and other agency staff to implement capital campaign goals, major gifts and other fundraising goals.

 

AGENCY EXPECTATION OF EMPLOYEE

  • Maintain confidentiality of client, donor, volunteer, staff and board information
  • Support the mission, vision and goals of Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County
  • Represent Meals On Wheels in a professional manner at all times
  • Must have dependable transportation, valid driver license and personal vehicle insurance as required by the State of Texas
  • Required to pass criminal background check and have a free and clear MVR
  • Assist with meal delivery when volunteer callouts make it necessary for staff to deliver
  • Contribute to other projects when necessary

 

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

  • Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies that align with the agency’s mission and program
  • Obtain and document approval from manager for making application to prospective funder and obtain final approval for submission of proposal
  • Construct grant proposals and develop or obtain supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the agency and prospective funder
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, i.e., coworkers, donors, foundation directors and volunteers
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals
  • Retain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain highly organized, paying close attention to multiple deadlines
  • Work closely with Grant Compliance team to communicate outputs, outcomes and other tangibles to fulfill funder requirements and submit grant amendments as necessary
  • Assist with donor engagement activities such as making phone calls, writing thank you notes and hosting donor recognition events

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing or a related area

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Possess strong positive interpersonal skills necessary to work with team members to accomplish tasks at hand
  • Writing, tracking and reporting experience on multiple grants simultaneously
  • Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process
  • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the Agency
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
  • Multitasking, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in grant writing or commensurate experience
