“Word of Mouth” is the number one answer to the question, “How did you hear about volunteering for Meals On Wheels” when asked by Sarah at volunteer orientations. That means by sharing the word with friends, family and acquaintances, we can all play a part in filling 22 open routes.
Keeping 1,125 weekly routes (225 a day * 5 days) filled is an ongoing effort of the entire Volunteer department. Recruiters Jennifer and Georgia aggressively work with civic organizations and targeted businesses to find volunteer groups that will take routes in the areas of greatest need and hardest to fill. Those areas are Northside, Inner-city, Poly, Forest Hill, Southside, and Southwest.
Keeping routes manageable is an ongoing balancing act. If a route grows too much, volunteers grow weary and quit. Because of an increase in clients on the program, Debbie is trying to add 3 new routes, 1 in each of the following areas: Southwest, Southside and Westcreek, which would mean another 15 volunteers!
Please help by getting the word out. In addition to telling people you know about Meals On Wheels and our need for volunteers, follow us (Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County) on Facebook, find the latest post on volunteerism, and LIKE & SHARE!
